I treated myself to their banana walnut french toast, and Mathis had their eggs and famous grits. We both love breakfast foods so much, and we always love the chance to go out for brunch.
That afternoon Mathis worked on some Spanish work. He is spending close to three hours everyday learning Spanish. He is so dedicated to doing this, and I'm really proud of him for taking the time to learn another language. He has been learning Spanish for awhile, but he has more time this summer to really increase his skills. He'll be taking a trip to Colombia in August, and it's definitely good motivation for him to keep learning the language.
We made dinner reservations at the Palisades since we loved it so much on Valentine's Day. The drive out to the restaurant is so beautiful...
The skies reminded me so much of how it looked on our wedding day...
I love that it rained on our wedding day. I didn't love it so much at the time, but it's a part of our story. I'll always remember how Max Lucado tied the rain into his message during our wedding, and of course they say it's good luck! ;) We have been blessed with a lot of rain here in Virginia this Spring, and it rained again on our anniversary. Although we've had some bad storms pass through, there have been many nights where it's so peaceful to listen to the rain falling outside. Because of the rain everything here is so green and beautiful!
Alright, so back to our dinner at the Palisades... :)
One of the things we were most excited about was ordering a bottle of Lovingston Wine. Lovingston is our favorite winery, and they aren't served very many places. Here's Mathis with our 2007 (perfect year!) bottle of Merlot.
Everything at the Palisades is made to order, and it's the kind of place where you can sit back and enjoy food, wine and conversation for hours. A lot of their food is locally grown, and it's just soooo good! I ordered salmon for a main course, and Mathis had a dry aged ribeye steak. We shared a chocolate raspberry cheesecake for dessert.
Although it's hard to tell in the picture, I wore my wedding necklace and earrings -- this is something I've done on each anniversary, and it's a fun tradition for me! I got my jewelry in Hawaii the last time we went (now 5 years ago) from the Pearl Factory. :)
And here we are just the two of us in the parking lot after dinner. I'm so grateful for Mathis, and I'm thankful the Lord has continued to bless us with his lovingkindness. This last year had a lot of ups and downs, but I wouldn't have changed any of it -- we continue to grow and learn more each and every year. Four years ago we would have had no idea that we'd be living in Virginia (both in school!), but God knew. He knows it all, and I'm excited to continue to watch His plan for our lives unfold.

It is strange to think back to 3 or 4 years ago what we are doing now; we probably would have freaked out!
