Fork and Cork

Yesterday Mathis and I had a great day! We got to sleep in since we had done our long run the night before.  I met up with some sweet women from church for a brunch, and then Mathis and I went to the Farmer's Market.  Our church was also having a yard sale that morning so we stopped by there as well.

Around 11:00am we went and did a little bit of shopping.  I got a new running shirt for the summer, and Mathis bought a new book to read.  At noon we were first in line for the Blacksburg Fork and Cork festival!  We went to this same festival last year, and we loved it!

Here's just a few of the wineries we visited...

We bought two bottles of red wine from Veritas, a bottle of red from Well Hung, and a bottle of Rose from The Homeplace.  We opened the Rose and drank it at the festival, but saved the three bottles of red to bring home.  We have a ton of white wine right now, but we're running a little low on red so we knew that's what we'd purchase at Fork and Cork.  It was the perfect afternoon to enjoy some Rose... :)

In addition to the great wine, we got to have some great food too!  We sat in on a cooking demonstration of Oysters Rockefeller, and it was delicious!

For lunch we had BBQ sandwiches and for dessert we had cupcakes!  Our friends Tracy and Lisa have opened a cupcake business in Blacksburg, and their cupcakes are amazing!!!  Mathis is somewhat of a cupcake connoisseur, and Downtown Cupcakes are some of the best we've tasted.  I had the chocolate kahlua, and it was my favorite!

We spent a lot of the day hanging out at this booth... it was fun for us to see how many people stopped by to purchase the cupcakes! :)  The festival got pretty crowded, but they had the tents organized much better than last year.  We were glad we had arrived right when it started and done most of our tastings early on.

The weather was absolutely gorgeous (sunny with a high in the low 70s).  It was so great to spend the day outside soaking up the sun.  We love these kind of days in Virginia, and we're looking forward to many more of them this summer! :)

Hope you enjoyed a great weekend too!
