This past weekend I got to have one of the best girls' weekends ever! Me and my friends Jessica (and her daughter, Halle), Wendy, Hannah, and Stacie piled into Jess' Tahoe and headed up to Columbus, Ohio to visit our friend, Sarah. On Saturday morning, a few of us participated in a the Capital City Half Marathon and Quarter Marathon.
I ran the half, and it was my fifth half marathon to date! I set a PR (personal record), and I couldn't have been more pleased with my time. :) Running this race also qualified me to join the Half Fanatics. I'll do a full recap on the race later in the week, but here's a recap on the rest of the weekend...
After the race we decided to search for cupcakes. Stacie aka 'The Cupcake Expert' had looked up a few different places, and one of them wasn't too far from the race's finish line. We walked on over to the Bakery Gingham, and it felt good to keep walking my legs out from the race. The girl serving us our cupcakes said they were in the finals to be on Cupcake Wars -- very exciting! We each got a cupcake to go, and enjoyed them with our lunch.
After taking showers and eating our lunch we headed off to do some shopping. We had a great time looking around at all the fun shops we don't have here in Christiansburg. It was a little rainy, but still nice to be out and about.
I bought a cardigan at H&M, and we made a stop for some frozen yogurt!
And we made sure to leave ourselves plenty of time to shop at Trader Joe's. I am so sad that we don't have a Trader Joe's anywhere close to us in Virginia!! We love their coffee, and I stocked up on whole bean coffee for Mathis and dog treats for Grace and Carter.
My legs were really starting to hurt by this time of the night. I was also pretty tired, but looking forward to eating dinner and watching the Kentucky Derby. We headed out to eat, and I didn't hold back!! According to my Garmin I had burned 1413 calories running the half, so I earned a good meal or two. :) I had calamari as an appetizer and bacon macaroni and cheese for dinner -- it was delicious! We watched the Derby on tv, and the horse I picked didn't do too well. :( After dinner we went bowling. I decided to watch, because my legs were still pretty sore. That night we went back to Sarah's and her mom brought over a couple of Derby pies -- perfect way to end the evening!
The next morning we headed off to church and then enjoyed a nice lunch before hitting the road. We couldn't believe that we got everything packed into the car, but we did it! Here's a group shot before we left.
When we got home, our husbands had cooked a huge meal for us. We had a great cookout together, and it was such a nice way to enjoy the evening. I was glad to be back and excited to see Mathis again. It was fun getting to share more details with him about the race, and to hear how his weekend had gone. He is finally done with school, and I think he feels much less stressed.
Today Mathis headed into work, and I waited at home for the DirecTV guy to come by (long story). When Mathis got home after lunch we decided to go see Thor at the movies. Mathis has wanted to see this movie for a long time! We saw the movie, went grocery shopping, and cooked salmon for dinner. I thought about going for a run, but I'm still pretty worn out. I'll get back in the game tomorrow! Tonight I'm working on a psychological evaluation and planning on an early bedtime. Loving this time of year!! :)
