Mathis' 26th Birthday

Saturday was Mathis' birthday, and we had a great day.  I woke up early to make him some Pioneer Woman Cinnamon Rolls, and I let him open up my gift.  Mathis loves the Daily Show with Jon Stewart so I had given him an official Daily Show coffee mug.  He enjoyed coffee in his new mug at breakfast, and we planned out our day.

Our first stop was to the berry farm.  Yes, this is our third visit in the past two weeks.  We can't get enough of these fresh berries!  We were hoping the blackberries would be ready, but they weren't ripe enough yet, so we just picked some more blueberries for friends.  After the berry farm we headed over to the Farmer's Market for some fresh veggies.  Mathis was most excited to get a rope of garlic. :)

We came home, showered and then headed out to Virginia Mountain Vineyards.  We had a groupon for a tasting there that expired soon.  The drive out to this winery is so beautiful, and we enjoyed listening to music while we headed out there.  It was a warm, but absolutely beautiful day.

Here I am with our old friend from before. :)

We bought a bottle of Merlot and a bottle of their Holiday Spice Wine.  I love the holiday wine around Thanksgiving and Christmas!  Since we were so close to Blue Ridge Vineyards we decided to hop on over there for another tasting.  It is so much fun to talk with the winemakers and to hear about the upkeep of the vines and the bottling process.  We continue to learn something every time we visit another winery.  We really enjoyed their Cabernet Franc.

We were both a little tired from all the driving that day so we got Thai food to go and ate at home that night.  Mathis was blessed to receive many phone calls from family that day, and he received an Amazon Kindle from them as a present.  He loves his Kindle so much already, and I know that he's going to really enjoy reading all his books and articles on it.

I am so grateful for Mathis, and I love being able to celebrate him on his birthday.  He is such a hard worker, and he's constantly serving me through little and big ways.  I love getting to spoil him on his birthday, and I'm grateful we were able to do so much together on Saturday.
